I was sitting on the bench outside the Education building. The sun was shining, warming my skin underneath my clothes. All students were paired up so the teacher was my partner. The question at hand: Who do you admire?
The first name that came to mind was Albert Einstein. I had a poster of him hanging in my bedroom. It read:
“Great spirits have often encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds.”
I can remember the first time I ever saw that quote. I think the truth of it reverberated through my energy body instantly.
I thought about what it meant, many times, as I lay there, in my first years of college, thinking about the world.
In any times of strife or hardship, it’s always comforting to find other beings who share similar views of the world. I know it’s often said that we should come together, or be open to other’s view points, but when those views are harmful, violent, and hurt others, I know in my heart that I don’t want to come together with those people.
We’re all loved, we’re all precious creations of the one true source, but that doesn’t mean I have to hang out with everyone, spend time or energy on them, and seek to understand their ways.
So, I take comfort in voices like Einstein. He said things that I understand, that are thought provoking, intelligent, and make sense to me. He said things that give me hope that it’s okay to just be me and do as I do.
Here’s a great one:
“Be a loner. That gives you time to wonder, to search for the truth. Have holy curiosity. Make your life worth living.”
I have people in my life who criticize me. They judge how I live, my relationships, or actions I take. When I respond with boundaries, they tell me I’m doing “that thing I do” that is “pushing people away.”
It’s frustrating, to say the least.
When we grow, become more of ourselves, value who we are and have high standards, we’ll stop putting up with other people’s toxic behavior and bullshit. These others, who have for so long been able to manipulate or control us, won’t like it one bit!
They’ll put it on us. They’ll blame us.
Being ourselves, honoring ourselves, and doing what WE are here to do, no matter what others say, takes HUGE COURAGE.
When we finally decide to stand for ourselves, to be ourselves, to dis-identify from the tribal patterns and programs, we’ll be met with fierce resistance.
People who are here, with a mission from the boss, to bring light to the world and assist humanity in a change in consciousness, have a big mission. We’re waking up. We’re realizing we’re here to bring forth our TRUTH.
This is scary. This takes courage. It’s the HARDEST thing we’ll ever have to do.
So, now that I have a baby daughter, and I’m stepping up and into my power, realizing my strength, and knowing that I must protect her, I’m having to set boundaries and make hard choices. And I’m meeting with some violent opposition.
People will criticize you for things you do, especially if what you’re doing is taking your power back and setting boundaries.
Fitting in isn’t the point. It never has been. Doing what everyone else is doing, isn’t why you’re here. Pleasing others isn’t why you’re here, either.
If someone truly cares, and values you, and loves you, they’ll speak kindly to you, they’ll seek to understand. They’ll hold space.
If people criticize, blame, and are cruel, this isn’t belonging + it’s not love. It’s manipulation + control.
Don’t be afraid to be alone. Don’t be afraid to be you. Let yourself wonder, think, journal and create! This makes for a deeply rich and satisfying life.
And this doesn’t mean isolating. Isolating is different. Still join, when it feels good, with people who love you, fan your flames, believe in you and help you feel good.
It’s important to let people love us. And we get to choose who those people are.
Allowing destructive people in our world, who are toxic, won’t help. It’s time to step up, be an adult, and activate your power of free will.
